A basic LERT training class will be held January 10th from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Grace Lutheran. This class will cover an introduction to the LCMS Disaster Response program. Participants will learn the basic nature of disasters, and how Christians can support church workers, families, congregations and the general public, as the hands and feet of Jesus, during these trying times. Other class topics include response and deployment protocol in times of disasters, a ministry of presence, and safety practices. Pastor Paul Ernewein, District Disaster Response Coordinator for the Southern District, will lead the training.
LERT chainsaw training is an additional training participants can take to further develop their disaster relief ministry skills. This class will be held January 11th from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. In this course, participants will learn safe chainsaw operation, personal protective equipment, injury prevention, the physics of cutting trees, how to buck and limb fallen trees, and how to clear debris in a safe and beneficial manner. Three hours will be spent in classroom instruction. Four hours will be spent practicing skills. All participants of chainsaw training will need to bring the following items: Helmet, ear protection, eye protection, chaps, gloves, steel toed boots, chainsaw, chain-bar oil, and fuel. If members do not have these items, they will be provided to you at the time of training, but please let us know in advance so we can be prepared. Pastor Ed Brashier from Gardendale will lead this chainsaw training.
Food will be provided for both trainings. Sign up here if you would like to participate!
